Fasting Day 4

Today: READ Acts 2

Today we continue to say no to the flesh, and yes to the spirit through fasting. Spend more time in prayer. Spend more time in the Word. Spend time meditating on what you long for God to do in your life, both in Mexico and back here at home. What do you long for God to do? Pray expectantly, and then raise your expectations, because we serve a BIG God! Let’s let our prayers match the size of our God!

Acts 2
Pentecost
1 When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were staying. 3 And tongues, like flames of fire that were divided, appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit gave them ability for speech.
5 There were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 When this sound occurred, a crowd came together and was confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7 And they were astounded and amazed, saying,[a] “Look, aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 How is it that each of us can hear in our own native language? 9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites; those who live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking the magnificent acts of God in our own languages.” 12 They were all astounded and perplexed, saying to one another, “What could this be?”

Could you imagine? What if you were down in Mexico and God moved in the Spirit for you to speak, and no translator was necessary? What if the rest of your American group heard you in perfect English, and the rest of the crowd heard you in their native Spanish tongue? Does your faith allow for such a scenario? If not, pray for faith today. Pray for God to fix your unbelief.

Do you believe God can heal the body, as well as be the eternal Savior of our souls? Do you believe that you can pray for healing, and if it is God’s will, the Spirit of God can flow through a person’s body, correcting whatever affliction may be ailing them? If you are going on this trip and don’t believe, you soon will see. Read my story of healing here tomorrow.

The man walks around free from the crutch and the cane!
Pray for our team. Pray for the Holy Spirit to rest on each of the 16 missionaries leaving for Mexico next week. Pray for the Holy Spirit to blow each and every one of their minds. Pray for power to come on them, and for each word they pray to have power. Pray that the Spirit manifests through healings, speaking of tongues, prophesying, and in other powerful ways that affirm the faith of each team member. Let each person know that they do not go on their own, but with the full power of God! Such a realization leaves no room for fear. No room for timidity. Only a boldness that can come from God!

Be bold HERE too! When someone asks where you are going, tell them. Make sure they know you aren’t going on a beach vacation. Tell them you are going to share Jesus Christ with the people there. This isn’t a construction trip building houses, which is a great way to spend time in a place like this, but our goal is above all to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is power in His name- so make sure you name drop him in your workplace over the next week.

I have been praying for the Spirit of God to move in front of our team; preparing the soil for the seeds that are to be planted; watering the seeds that are waiting to burst into life. As we sit here in the comfort of our homes, the Spirit is placing the longing on the hearts of the people. That is the only way we can explain the effectiveness of our silent dramas. We do not act alone. The truth of the Gospel as displayed in our dramas is magnified through the eyes of the people through the Holy Spirit.
Continuing at Acts 2:38: “Repent,” Peter said to them, “and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” 40 And with many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, “Be saved from this corrupt generation! 41 So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about 3,000 people were added to them.
3000 people! Really! That is insane by today’s standards! Last year in really only 5 days of ministry, we saw over 700 people come into Salvation. We were ecstatic about this, but that was just the tip of the iceberg! It may be easy to discount such a large number, to let disbelief creep in, making us question the sincerity of these peoples choice to follow Jesus. We must fight against this! We must have faith that God will continue the work He started! 1 Corinthians 3:5-9 says, “Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.” We will plant seeds, we will water others, but God is the one who causes the growth, and it will continue long after we leave.

Father God- we come to You today expectantly. We come to you, long to see YOU glorified. We long to see You move in ways we have never seen before! We long to see You display Your power in ways that draw people into repentance and a relationship with You through Your Son Jesus! Help our unbelief where it exists. Raise our expectation for what You can accomplish through us, and then blow those expectations out of the water! Give us boldness to share the Gospel, both in Mexico, in our workplace and in our families. We know that Your Spirit does not get caught at the border- but we press forward with the knowledge that everything we do can be empowered by the same Spirit that was in Jesus Your Son. In His precious name we pray- AMEN
