Benjamin speaking in front of the church with one of the amazing translators |
My name is Benjamin, and this year I went on a missions trip to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. We were there for seven days, and the whole trip was a life- changing experience! So many amazing things happened, and I am going to tell you about the most amazing thing that happened to me on this trip.
We were at a colonia, which is really just a poor neighborhood, and our drama performances were
nearing an end, and we were going to go out in the crowd, and ask if anybody needed prayer for anything.
I was standing at the back of our group, praying to the Lord, asking him who he wanted me to pray for. When I had finished praying, I looked up. The first person I say was a man wearing an orange polo shirt and a red baseball cap. I felt God say, “This is the one.”
So once it was time to go out in the crowd, I went over to Aaron, one of the people that lived at the institute we were staying at, and asked him if he could go over there with me to translate. He said yes, and we walked over there to him.
As we were going over there, I was looking at him, and our eyes met. I could see that he could tell we were coming over there to talk to him, and he looked nervous and wary. When we got over there, Aaron asked me what I wanted to say. I told him that I felt the Holy Spirit tell me to go over there and pray for him, and I asked if there was anything going on in his life I could pray for.
He said that he was addicted to drugs, and he was having a hard time with his three children. He also said that he had pain in his side and his right foot. I started praying for him, and Aaron translated what I said so he could understand it. I prayed for healing, and peace, and that he would trust in Jesus.
Once we had finished praying, there was a huge smile on his face. Aaron asked him if anything felt different, and the man said that the pain in his foot and side was completely gone!
After we prayed, he started telling us his story. He said him, his wife, and his three kids led a normal life. But then he said that his wife started getting addicted to drugs. One day, she left, leaving him with the three kids. After that, he said that he got addicted to drugs, and that he felt guilty, unworthy, and he said he didn’t feel like he was being a good parent to his children.
After he finished his story, we prayed again, this time not for physical healing, but for freedom and courage. I prayed that God would help him to be freed from the chains of drugs, and that he would trust in God to help him through it.
Once we had finished praying, he thanked us for noticing him, and we left. This was a truly amazing encounter with God, because what started out as just a hunch that I should pray for that man, turned into God using me and Aaron to truly impact someone’s life for the better.
Way to go Benjamin! What an amazing testimony! God has great things planned for your life. He honors your obedience.
